The Legacy

The Legacy

I found this poem below which speaks of the legacy a Christian mother leaves behind. It brought back wonderful memories of days gone by of a love and legacy that only a Christian mother and a Christian dad could give. I remember long days of hard work beside them on our small farm here in Tennessee but more than that I remember days of singing “In The Sweet By & By” while working beside them in our garden and fields. I remember days of laughter and joy found while sitting on an old quilt, made my Mama’s and Mammy’s hands, eating a lunch at the edge of those open fields. I remember night sitting by an open fire with Mama softly humming “Amazing Grace” while she stitched a dress for me made from flour sacks. I can hear my daddy’s strong, yet gentle voice as he read to me from the “Holy Bible” until I fell asleep in my soft feather bed. Yes, I miss those special moments and my oh, so very special Mama & Daddy that taught me hard work, but most of all who taught me to love others and to love my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For that I am eternally grateful.~Jeanette

The Legacy

She could not give her children gold,

So she gave them faith to have and hold.

She could not give them royal birth…
A name renowned throughout the earth.
But she gave them seeds and garden spot
And shade trees when the sun was hot.

She could not give a silver spoon
Or servants waiting night and noon.
She gave them love and a listening ear
And told them God was always near.

She could not give them ocean trips
Aboard majestic sailing ships.
But she gave them books and quiet time,
Adventures found in prose and rhyme.

She could not give them worldly things
But what she gave was fit for kings.
For with her faith and books and sod,
She made each child aware of God.
