What Is Our Role, As a Christian, in Today’s World?
As a Christian today watching all the changes taking place in the world I sometimes have to stop and ask myself what is my role as a child of God in today society. So often I hear people say there is nothing I can do to change anything or it’s in God’s hand, what can I do? I fully realize it is in God’s hand but as His child, just as His Son, Jesus was, we to have a responsibility as His child to stand for God and to carry His Word to others.

First we are to love God and love others.
The first thing that came to my mind was Jesus’ instructions to His disciples.
Reference Matthew 22: 34-40 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Reference John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
How do we know we have love? God Word tells us how we will act if we have Godly Love.
Reference I Corinthians 13:4-7 Charity suffereth long (is patient), and is kind; charity envieth not (doesn’t resent others); charity vaunteth not itself (doesn’t brag on one’s self), is not puffed up (isn’t arrogant or overbearing to others), Doth not behave itself unseemly seeketh not her own , is not easily provoked (is not rude),, thinketh no evil (keeps no record of evil or wrongs), Rejoiceth not in iniquity (doesn’t rejoice in others sins), but rejoiceth in the truth (by God’s Word); Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
We need to ask ourselves are we walking in the love of God toward Him and others. Are we being a light for God in a world of darkness?
Reference Romans 13: 10-14 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

We are to do God’s work and keep ourselves unspotted from the world.
James 1: 19-24 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
We are to be doers of God’s word, not just hearers.
Reference James 1:22-24 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass. For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
Reference Verses 26-27 26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
If we can’t control our tongue, not just bad words but our attitude toward others our religion is for nothing, just plain empty.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

We are to be a watchman for the Lord.
