Tuesday Devotional

I Kings 19:11-13
And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

Here was Elijah in a cave hiding away for fear that the evil queen Jezebel was going to have him killed. Just prior to this he and the Lord had faced off against all the prophets of Baal and had seen God defeat all of them as they were slain with the sword (I Kings 19:1.) Yet after all Elijah had seen satan had come to him and had spoken lies into his heart just like he does us. Elijah felt as though he was the only one following the Lord at this time and he just wanted to go somewhere and hide away. God saw the discouragement he was dealing with just as He sees our discouragement. God only allowed Elijah to wallow in it for so long before He came to him and spoke to him in a still small voice; “Asking him, why are you here, Elijah?” God spoke to him and said you are not alone I still have 7.000 who have not bowed their knee to Baal. (1 Kings 19:18)
In our world today it’s not hard for us to feel alone as we see the all the sickness and wickedness happening around us, maybe even to us. But just as Elijah was not alone we are not alone either; first and most important we have the Lord with us at all times and hopefully we have our Christian family; those who are following Christ also. If not through a church then through a Christian support group. I encourage you my friends if you are not part of a church find one if you can; if you can’t be out or if there is not one close by find a good Christian group online to join and become part of it. We do not have to face this world alone and we all need each other for encouragement and strength when are weak, sick or discouraged. God loves you and there are others who follow Christ who love you.

Heavenly Father, Just as Elijah did we also become discouraged at times and feel as though we are facing things alone. Help us to hold on to You and listen for Your still small voice. Help us to find others who are following You so we can have the fellowship and encouragement we need to us press on in all this world can throw at us. Help us to be an encouragement to others around us who become discouraged. Remind us to stand on the solid rock of Your salvation. In Jesus Name! Amen
