Wednesday’s Devotional

Wednesday’s Devotional
Romans 12:19-21
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto (turn from) wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire (shame) on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Have you ever been so hurt and upset at someone that you wanted to get revenge? As much as I hate to admit it I have been there. Not long ago I was so hurt by someone that all I wanted was for them to feel the same pain I was feeling. Yet Paul teaches us here that we are not to try to avenge ourselves. Vengeance, if any takes place, should be in the hands of the Lord. The Lord loves everyone including the one who hurt us. He doesn’t want to see harm to anyone; all He wants is to see us change to be as He is, loving, kind and forgiving. When we are hurt we don’t feel like we want to do good for the one who hurt us; but doing good is best for us and for them. Our actions may bring shame upon them and just maybe it will bring reconciliation or at least a change of heart and peace with that person.

One of the greatest gifts we can give someone is forgiveness. That forgiveness doesn’t just help the other person but it releases us to be at peace. I know for myself praying for the one who hurt me helped me to forgive and move past the pain I was feeling. It doesn’t necessarily mean we will be in a relationship with the person who hurt us again but through forgiveness we can live our lives without the weight of anger and hate in our heart.

Remember my friends; goodness will overcome evil but only in God’s time and in God’s way; trust God for He is always working things for our good.

Heavenly Father please help me to put any anger and hurt feeling I have in Your hands. I know with Your help I can learn to forgive and move past my hurt. Fill my heart with forgiveness and mercy for my offender just as You forgave those who hurt and offended You. If you can say forgive them Father as You hung on the cross I can learn with Your help to forgive those who have hurt me. Thank You Lord for Your mercy and forgiveness to me. In Jesus Precious Name. Amen
